1992 TDK Super Avilyn Tape and Tascam Recording Paraphernalia

Another home multitrack recording time capsule – this time from the year 1992, when analogue tape-based formats were still very firmly at the forefront of the genre. Back then, the For Sale columns in the audio recording magazines headlined on Cassette Recorders and Reel to Reel, with Computing coming right at the end, after Percussion and Guitars.

Gary Moore – After Hours Audio Cassette (1992)

I thought I’d do something a bit different with the illustration for this post. The eventual composition wasn’t really so much an idea as an inevitability. What with the late Gary Moore being so well known for using ‘flametop’ Gibson Les Paul guitars, I opted to use the front face of my own Les Paul ‘flametop’ as a makeshift ‘table’ for the tape, then open up the cassette cover for use as a backdrop. It’s made for quite a colourful and eyecatching image.

The Guitar Magazine Guitar Greats Cassette (1992)

Here’s a nice little collectors’ item which is twenty years old this month. Well, going by its official birthday it’s twenty years old. In reality it’s slightly older. This is the free Guitar Greats audio cassette, as given away on the cover of the April 1992 edition of The Guitar Magazine. Because of the way these mags were published the month prior to their cover dates, however, the cassette would have been made available in March ’92.
